Last week, on July 3, BRU-Iscte researcher and Nature Futures Erasmus+ Project team member Catarina Roseta Palma, together with BRU-Iscte staff Mafalda Casais held a workshop under the Citizen Science programme Ocupação Científica de Jovens nas Férias [Youth Science Holiday Programme], promoted by Ciência Viva – the Portuguese National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture.
In this activity, Catarina and Mafalda presented the Nature Futures Project and introduced a group of high school students to the concepts of Nature-based Solutions and citizen science, using the city as a starting point. The workshop had the aim of teaching about observation of reality through a scientific lens, systemic thinking about complex problems, and the ability to imagine NbS for real urban challenges. It also introduced the group to citizen science, helping them understand that they are not merely recipients of knowledge, but can also be producers of data.
