Biographical Note:Nancy E. Landrum, Ph.D. is an Independent Scholar in Sustainability Management. Dr. Landrum is widely published in books, journals, and media. She is Principal at Sustainable Business Design Consulting and founder of the Sustainability Training Institute. Dr. Landrum received her Ph.D. from New Mexico State University and has received awards for sustainability research, teaching, and service, including two Fulbright awards. Biographical Note:Dr. Peter M. Madsen (PhD UC Berkeley, 2006) is a professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at BYU’s Marriott School of Business. His research focuses on organizational safety and reliability, technology adoption, organizational change management, and organizational learning from accidents, incidents, and near misses. Much of his work centers on how organizations can draw lessons from accidents and near accidents and enact change based on those lessons to improve subsequent employee safety. Madsen’s work has been published in top management and safety journals, including: Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Harvard Business Review, Business Ethics Quarterly, Risk Management, and Quality and Safety in Health Care. Madsen’s scholarship has received several awards, including: Fulbright Award, Western Academy of Management Ascendent Scholar, Next Generation of Hazards and Disasters Researchers Fellowship, Academy of Management Meetings Best Paper, and Western Academy of Management Best Paper. Madsen’s teaches courses on human resource management, organizational behavior, change management, and crisis management at the undergraduate, MBA, and executive MBA levels. He also conducts corporate trainings and consults on these topics, as well as safety enhancement and organizational learning. Madsen has conducted training, consulting, and applied research projects with many large private, public, and government organizations, including: American Express, Belcan, Boeing, Dell, Honeywell, Infrabel, Microsoft, NASA, Orange S.A., PCC Airfoils, Pratt & Whitney, Procter & Gamble, ProRail, Statoil, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Navy.

Her research investigates the use process innovation methods and developing/expanding improvement approaches. Dr. Kovach received the 2010 ASQ Feigenbaum Medal and the 2019 ASQ Six Sigma Forum Award for the Advancement of Six Sigma. She is an Academician in the International Academy for Quality, an ASQ Fellow, and the Editor for Lean & Six Sigma Review.

Biographical Note:Prof. Truxillo's research examines the methods employers use to hire workers and the way that applicants perceive their potential employer during recruitment and hiring. In addition, Dr. Truxillo examines issues associated with age at work, including older worker stereotypes, and job design for older and younger workers. He also examines issues associated with antecedents of workplace safety. Prof. Truxillo’s work has been published in outlets such as Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Personnel Psychology. He has served as associate editor at the Journal of Management, and he is currently an associate editor for Work, Aging and Retirement. He is a member of 9 editorial boards including Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Business and Psychology, and the European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology. His research is currently supported by grants from National Science Foundation and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Prof. Truxillo has co-edited two books on age issues at work, and he recently published a textbook in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (Truxillo, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2016). Currently he is working on the topic of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Policy and Economic Development for Small Nations and his research interests are in the fields of International Business, Business Administration and Business Economics.
Testimony:Words cannot describe how wonderful it was to be a guest of BRU-IUL at ISCTE! My heartfelt thanks to everyone who made my stay as enjoyable and productive as possible. Though so many people at ISCTE welcomed me with warmth and support, I want to acknowledge Ana Brochado, Jose Paulo Esperança, Silvia Silva, and all of the folks at BRU-IUL: Alexandra, Andreia, Marisa, and Rui. I learned so much about Portugal during my brief sojourn, and yet I still have so much more to learn about this great people and culture. During my time at BRU-IUL I collaborated with Ana on a wine tourism project, with Ana and Aditya Shah on a study of Airbnb web reviews, and with Ana and Jose on research analyzing the effectiveness of European Commission grants for start-up ventures. I also became co-supervisor for two doctoral students: Helena Rodrigues and Patrick Giannini. I hope my stay is just the beginning of a lifelong relationship with people who started as colleagues and became my friends.

Biographical Note:Michael Travis Maynard is Associate Professor of Team Effectiveness and Leadership at Colorado State University where he has been nominated for a variety of teaching awards. Additionally, Travis has provided numerous talks to industry members on tactics they can employ to improve their team’s performance levels. In addition to teaching, Travis has also conducted extensive research in the areas of team effectiveness and leadership. Specifically, his research interests include the role that team contextual variables have on team interactions and outcomes.
Testimony:During my past 3 months at Iscte, I enjoyed working with several members of BRU-Iscte. In particular, Ana Passos and I wrote a chapter on team cohesion and adaptation that will be published in a book entitled Research on Managing Groups and Teams. Likewise, I have collaborated with Ana and one of her PhD on a project examining the impact of team composition on performance. Beyond these projects, I enjoyed my numerous conversations with BRU-IUL members about research and I am hopeful that these conversations will continue and my desire is that such discussions will ultimately lead to additional research collaborations with BRU-IUL members.
