SmartVitiNet project approved: drones fly over vineyards to enhance smart and sustainable wine production

Bru-Iscte together with Greek, French and Cyprus partners is part of the SmartVitiNet project, approved for a three-year funding period by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency.

The project “SmartVitiNet – Smart and Sustainable Drone-assisted Viticulture Excellence Network” officially started on the 1st December 2022 and aims to assist farmers and winemakers in sustainable pest control and water management, also responding to climate change.

SmatVitiNet will scale-up, pilot and bring to market an innovative holistic phytosanitary and plant protection system based on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).

BRU-iscte researcher Sofia Kalakou will be leading the development of a Competence Centre for Precision Viticulture, besides being involved in other work packages.

BRU-iscte researcher Nelson Ramalho will be involved in the creation of value networks and providing recommendations to local and national policymakers.

Pedro Sebastião, from IT-Iscte is also part of the project’s local team.
