Activity Description
Roots of Resilience: the three pillars of sustainability and socio-ecological innovation of the Replanting Life program
Irene Ciccarino from Management Research Group
CEDAE is a Brazilian mixed-economy company that produces clean water, with a focus on water security, innovation, and sustainability. The Replanting Life program has maintained forest nurseries in Water Treatment Plants and water reservoirs in the state of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) since 2001. It produces around two million seedlings per year of 254 species native to the Atlantic Forest, forty of which are threatened with extinction.
The program has already won more than twenty-five sustainability and social responsibility awards and seals, guaranteeing a positive return to the brand and image. Around two thousand hectares of green areas have already been recovered. And it is planned to expand to thirty thousand hectares by 2050, also expanding the capacity for training and job creation. The recovery of these forests impacts the water supply of approximately twelve million people. The lecture explores how the program is directly related to CEDAE’s business and its ability to fulfil its mission of offering reference services in water capture and treatment, aligning the Company’s sectors with its socio-environmental governance. Consequently, this is reflected in ESG indicators.
