Helena Almeida, Research Assistant at BRU-Iscte, presented a collaborative effort between Iscte and FutureNeeds on developing a digital tool for sustainable aviation at the recent 27th ATRS world conference . The conference, held in Lisbon from June 30th to July 4th, 2024, brought together a global audience interested in the advancement of air transport research.
Almeida’s presentation, titled “Characteristics of a digital tool for sustainable aviation,” detailed the functionalities and potential of the tool being developed. Her participation aimed to not only share Iscte and FutureNeeds’ progress but also foster knowledge exchange and collaboration within the sustainable aviation research community.
“It was an excellent opportunity not only to showcase our work but also to learn and discover more about other studies being carried out for a more sustainable aviation sector,” said Helena Almeida. “Great input was generated from our participation in this conference, which was a success!“
The 27th ATRS World Conference provided a platform for researchers and industry professionals to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in air transport research. Almeida’s presentation on the digital tool for sustainable aviation aligns with the conference’s focus on fostering innovation for a more environmentally friendly aviation industry.
This research result is developed under the framework of the RefMap project, a consortium of 11 partners which investigates how aviation business models will be affected by the availability of environmental data for each type and route of air vehicle, enabling stricter evidence-based Green policy making in the sector. The project holds promise for accelerating practical solutions for sustainable air travel. With continued development, the digital tool has the potential to become a valuable resource for airlines, policymakers, and other stakeholders working towards a greener future for aviation.
