Kerstin Jorna, Director General at European Commission presented the ten EU GROW 2024 scholarship holders. Sandro Mendonça, integrated researcher from the Economics Group at BRU-Iscte is one of ten experts selected to advise the DG GROW on industrial, trade and innovation policy.
BRU-Iscte Researcher and Iscte Business School Professor of Economics Sandro Mendonça has been appointed as one of ten experts to support the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) by the European Commission during its 2024 cycle. As part of a four-year programme, the DG GROW elects top economists and academics for a period of one year to advise on its analysis and policymaking in industrial, trade and innovation policy, market integration, and new and emerging issues with relevance to the single market and EU industry.
This fellowship programme is addressed to top economists/academics of recognised reputation.
As a Fellow Economist of the DG GROW, Sandro Mendonça will support the Directorate-General of European Comission Commission on strategic autonomy, supply chain distress, future-proofing skills, impact investments, alternative business models, purposeful innovation, and the industrial ecosystem approach. Joining himare nine other experts from institutions of eight European countries.
In 2015, Sandro Mendonça had already been nominated “European Young Leader” by the Friends of Europe Foundation. Moreover, he has cooperated with CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Rights Office). He was deputy member of the Management Committee of OceanGov (European Network on “Ocean Governance for Sustainability”, sponsored by the European Science Foundation). Between 2018 and 2023 he was an Executive Board Member of ANACOM, the Portuguese Communications regulating agency.
