Overview

The PhD in Management, specialization in Quantitative Methods applied to Management, is a pathway for students interested in interdisciplinary research who wish to learn advanced theory-driven quantitative methods and apply them appropriately to answer substantive questions in the fields of Management. It is also well-suited to statistically trained researchers whose interests are more methodological.

The program is structured around three major objectives:

  1. To provide students with a range of academic knowledge and competences in Research Methodologies, Statistics and Modelling, so that they can conduct independent, skilled, and innovative research projects and contribute to the development of novel statistical methods for analyzing Management Sciences data.
  2. To encourage and support students to participate in dissemination activities among the scientific community, namely through the presentation of research outcomes at conferences and scientific meetings, as well as publishing papers in top tier journals.
  3. To promote solid professional perspectives by preparing the future PhD holders for academic faculty positions and significant roles within research, as well as fostering their integration into the international scientific community.

Why choose the specialization in Quantitative Methods applied to Management?

  1. Quantitative research under a theory-driven approach allows the structural relationships among the relevant variables and intervening processes to be carefully modelled, thus providing a better understanding of the causal mechanisms underlying the relationships between variables.
  2. Theory-driven quantitative research increases the rigour, credibility and generalizability of the findings by discussing the assumptions for the application of a specific method, the data requirements for a given procedure, and the boundaries around the conclusions that can be drawn from results.
  3. Quantitative theory-driven evaluation helps to guide the decision-making process within the context of companies and organizations as it provides a framework for understanding what works and what needs improvement. This approach can be used to assess the effectiveness of goals, objectives, activities, and outcomes.
