Marketing using AI applications

Scientific Profile:

  • Ph.D. in Marketing, Management, or related fields, with expertise in AI, data analytics, or digital transformation.
  • Proven track record of publications in top-tier journals in the field of Marketing or AI applications in Marketing.
  • Knowledge of data analytics, machine learning algorithms, and their applications in Marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI technologies to real-world marketing problems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research on Marketing using AI applications focusing on consumer behavior, digital marketing strategies, and consumer-AI-embedded agent interactions.
  • Apply advanced analytics and machine learning models to solve complex marketing challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI technologies into marketing strategies.
  • Analyze large datasets to derive insights into consumer behaviors and market trends.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams to inform public policies, regulations, and legislation on AI, ensuring a participatory approach to the digital transformation of businesses and public services.
  • Publish findings in top-tier academic journals (ABS and FT50) and present at top-tier international conferences in Marketing.
  • Develop, submit, manage, and participate in national and international projects.
  • Guide junior researchers and contribute to the academic environment of the institution.

Operations Management

Scientific Profile:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration or related fields.
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods relevant to operations management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to address complex operational challenges.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • A track record of publications in renowned scientific journals

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting research in Operations Management that aligns with the following thematic lines (TLs) of the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy: Societal Health (TL3) and Digital Transformation (TL5).
  • Applying advanced analytical techniques and tools to analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and derive actionable insights that contribute to enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Developing mathematical models, simulation approaches and/or optimization algorithms to address complex operational challenges and support decision-making processes.
  • Collaborating with BRU-Iscte and other SocioDigital Lab researchers, as well as with external partners from academia, industry and government, so as to leverage complementary expertise.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders to facilitate knowledge transfer and real-world impact, including shaping public policies to effectively respond to evolving digital landscapes and promoting citizen-centric approaches in service design, improvement and delivery.
  • Disseminating research findings through publications in top scientific journals and presentations at academic conferences.
  • Contributing to developing research proposals and applications to national and international funding opportunities.

Health Services Management

Scientific Profile:

  • Ph.D. in Management, Operations Management, or related fields, with expertise in quantitative and qualitative techniques applied to Health Service Management.
  • Past publications in scientific journals on the ABS, FT50, Q1 JCR or Q1 SJR lists in the last 3 years, with particular emphasis on Health Services Management and Health Policies.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Ability to engage with researchers from different groups and organizations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in Health Service Management and Policies, aligned with the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy thematic line 3 – Societal Health, in particular research that promotes the effectiveness of health systems and services and more evidence-based and patient-centered health policies.
  • Apply analytic tools to analyse large datasets to solve complex Health Service challenges.
  • Apply qualitative tools to analyse and propose improvements to the management of health services and policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate management principles into health service provision and promotion of more sustainable health policies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams to inform health policies and regulations.
  • Publish findings in top-tier academic journals and present at top-tier international conferences in Management or Operations Management
  • Develop, submit, manage, and participate in national and international projects within the scope of Societal Health.
  • Supervise junior researchers and contribute to the academic development of the institution.
  • Assure ethical behaviour while conducting research.
  • Contributing to developing research proposals and applications to national and international funding opportunities.

Human Resources Management

Scientific Profile:

  • PhD in the field of Human Resources Management.
  • Quantitative data analysis skills, including multilevel and longitudinal modelling, as well as skills in field data collection processes.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Work together with the Business Research Unit’s Organizational Behavior and Human Resources (OBHR) Research Group in developing ongoing research projects and original research, including the conception and design of research projects and their submission for competitive funding, as well as investment in data collection procedures and the production of scientific papers.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in streamlining the development of a hub to co-produce knowledge together, as well as with other stakeholders (e.g. companies), in order to better answer real societal challenges and to actively engage with society.
  • Advance scientific knowledge on key strategic areas aligned with the quality of work life and promotion of collaboration, such as mistreatment at work, occupational health, and current human resources challenges (e.g. hybrid work arrangements, human-machine interaction).
  • Contributing to developing research proposals and applications to national and international funding opportunities.

Sustainable Management and Innovation

Scientific Profile:

  • A doctoral degree in Management or in a related field.
  • Proven experience in conducting research and data analysis in a higher education institution, preferably in the context of sustainable management and innovation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and various qualitative and quantitative data analysis software.
  • Adherence to the highest standards of integrity in research.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior researchers and faculty members, from BRU-Iscte and the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy, to conduct interdisciplinary research on topics such as, but not exclusively, sustainable business models, circular economy, sustainable innovation, social entrepreneurship, and environmental policy.
  • Reviewing and synthesizing relevant information from academic and non-academic sources on relevant topics.
  • Collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate methods and software.
  • Preparing research reports, papers, and presentations to disseminate research findings.
  • Assisting with the design and implementation of fieldwork, surveys, experiments, and interviews.
  • Communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and networks, such as research partners, policymakers, think tanks and practitioners.
  • Contributing to the dissemination and outreach of research findings and recommendations to enhance societal impact.
  • Contributing to strengthening the links between research, advanced training, and practice.
  • Contributing to developing research proposals and applications to national and international funding opportunities.

Economics

Scientific Profile:

  • PhD in Economics.
  • Strong academic background in econometrics and modelling techniques.
  • Experience in applying these techniques to the climate/ecological context.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Make use of big data in an environmental/ecological context to assess the current situation in some of the most important natural resources and/or eco-systems.
  • Make use of machine learning approaches to analyse the impact of international political institutions agreements (namely the World Trade Organization) in areas such as natural resource extraction and its impacts.
  • Propose climate/ecological policies in the various dimensions of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus.
  • Design climate/ecological policies that make use of innovative policies.
  • Promote communication with society (private and public organizations) on findings of the research conducted.
  • Interact with policy makers in order to help design environmental public policies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
  • Help monitoring the National Plan for Energy and Climate 2030 and the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050 and associated public policies, in relation to their economic impact, in accordance with the thematic line 1 of the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy – Regenerative Territories for Carbon Neutrality.
  • Contributing to developing research proposals and applications to national and international funding opportunities.

Finance

Scientific Profile:

  • PhD in Management, Economics, Finance or Accounting.
  • Reasonable level of competences in the following areas:
    • Numerical analysis: involving collecting, processing, and managing big data; applying statistical and computational methods to analyze the data; and estimate numerical solutions.
    • Mathematical modelling: developing and analyzing mathematical models and algorithms that are applicable to finance and accounting research problems.
  • Other competences considered relevant: understanding of financial accounting, understanding of finance.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Developing digital tools and novel methodologies to understand the dynamics of financial markets to help investors, banks, businesses, policymakers, and citizens to make better investment and financing decisions.
  • Developing innovative data analytic solutions to investment and financing problems in the context of executive management decisions or public policy interventions, focusing on solutions to problems associated with decisions regarding:
    • (i) energy and environmental projects.
    • (ii) information production and reporting about business performance and business sustainability.
    • (iii) allocation of public subsidies to strategic investment and social welfare.
    • (iv) evaluation of credit risk.
  • The work includes:
    • Collecting data from public and private data sources, combining, and managing different data sources.
    • Planning and designing empirical tests.
    • Conducting numerical analysis of data.
    • Estimating and simulating mathematical models.
    • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific literature and technical developments.
    • Writing research papers, reports, and reviews for different stakeholders.
    • Presenting results to scientific community, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
    • Preparing research proposals and funding applications.
    • Supervising junior staff.
    • Ensuring quality and ethical standards are met.
    • Liaising with other researchers of BRU-Iscte and the SocioDigital Lab for Public Policy, in particular of Thematic Line 5 – Digital Transformation.
